Treatment
After the diagnosis has been made, the doctor will decide on the treatment. Contrary to Western medicine, a disease is not cured with specific medicines for this particular disease. TCM aims at restoring the physical balance, the balance betweenYin and Yang. The doctor will regulate the flow of Qi, blood and fluids. Weak organs will be strengthened and blocked channels opened. A deficiency will be replenished and an excess will be removed. Parts that are too hot will be cooled and parts that are too cold will be heated.
A treatment may consist of several parts: acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, dietary advice, massage and exercises. During the treatment the doctor will pay particular attention to any changes in the body and will adjust the treatment accordingly.
The duration of the treatment will depend on the nature and the gravity of the complaints. Each treatment is meticulously tuned to the patient. As complaints disappear, the treatment can be reduced and completed.
Chinese Herbal Therapy
The use of therapeutic herbs is a powerful method. Western medicines are often aimed at symptoms only. Thus antibiotics deal with bacteria, but they do not increase a person's resistance against infections. Diuretics expel excesive moisture, but they do not contribute to improving the function of the kidney. Chinese herbs effect the underlying causes and seldom have any undesirable side-effects.

The effect of herbs
Herbs support the organs in performing their functions. In this way there are herbs that help the heart to circulate blood and to ease the mind. Others help the spleen to improve digestion and to support the balance of fluids. Herbs have a favourable effect on the lungs, improving respiration and increasing the resistance of the body. Herbs that effect the liver provide emotional resilience. The kidney will benefit from other herbs, stimulating the libido and the body's regenerative powers.
Preparation and use of the Herbal Tea
Every day 1 package of herbs
Use the following recipe:
Put the herbs in a pan with 800ml water. Leave the herbs to soak for 20 minutes. When using a larger amount of herbs, add some more water. When using a smaller amount of herbs you can use a little less water.
Bring the herbs to the boil and let them simmer for 50 minutes.
Strain the herbs and collect the tea in a mug. This should be about 200 ml. Keep the herbs.
Drink the warm herbal tea in the morning, 30 minutes after breakfast.
Add water to the herbs again. Take about 2 thirds of the previous amount of water and again bring the herbs to the boil. Let them simmer for 30 minutes. Strain the herbs and collect about 150 ml in a mug.
Drink this herbal tea in the evening, 30 minutes after dinner.
Do not use a cast-iron pan. You can use stainless steel, aluminium and enamelled pans. Stoneware is very suitable.
